Human Powered Health has added more speed quality for the upcoming 2023 season with the signing of American sprinting breakaway artist and cyclocross racer, Scott McGill. The 24-year-old from Fallston, Maryland signs from Wildlife Generation Pro Cycling, having previously ridden for the Aevolo team.
“To finally be able to join Human Powered Health is very exciting and I’m looking forward to racing for a more international setup,” McGill said from his home. “It’s a team that I’ve wanted to join for a long time.”
2022 was a breakthrough year for McGill who scored two stage victories, the points jersey and a further three podium finishes at the Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta. Success also came on home soil in the form of a sixth-place finish at the Joe Martin Stage Race and a bronze medal in the elite men’s US Criterium National Championships.

This impressive record in the second half of the season meant that McGill was selected for the Road World Championships in Wollongong, Australia, where he joined an epic 227 km breakaway. A reward for hard work and persistence, in previous years McGill had wondered if he would ever make it.
“It happened a little later than I would have hoped but I stayed persistent and was able to earn a contract,” he says. “Over the last few years, I’ve stayed as motivated as I can. To win in Europe is a totally different ball game and it was pretty relieving to know that everything is clicking.”
McGill’s international 2022 program also saw him race the Tour du Rwanda.
“That’s such a beautiful country. There were so many people out to watch the race go by and we saw how talented the African riders are,” he says. “I hope there’s a growing cycling community there. You see kids riding around on a bike that barely works with two different shoes on each foot and they’re just doing what they can to get equipment to ride, so I hope it continues to develop.”
A rider who enjoys the harder days in the saddle that end in a sprint, McGill isn’t a “highway sprinter,” instead thriving on technical finishes as well as in breakaways.
“I don’t really like to sit in the peloton all day,” he explains. “Cyclocross has made me more comfortable on my bike. It’s two different skill sets but they certainly transfer across.”

Off the bike, McGill relaxes and recharges from a big racing block by hanging out with his two dogs.
“You can’t talk to a dog on the phone,” he jokes. “I can talk to my girlfriend and mom but it’s not the same with my dogs unless I’m there.”
Human Powered Health looks forward to having Scott on the squad. Stay tuned for our final announcement to complete 2023 roster very soon.
