Third Polish rider joins Human Powered Health

news
Alan Banaszek follows compatriots Daria Pikulik and Stanisław Aniołkowski, signs through 2023

Previously announced signing Stanisław Aniołkowski will have a Polish connection in the sprint train next year as training partner Alan Banaszek joins Human Powered Health for 2023. The 24-year-old from Warsaw will be utilized as a final kilometer rider and his signing reaffirms performance director Jonas Carney’s promise that “in 2023 we will focus a lot of our energy and resources on sprinting.

Banaszek joins from the continental HRE Mazowsze Serce Polski team – and is currently racing against Human Powered Health at the CRO Race. He has had a successful 2022 with overall victory in The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorns Cup Tour of Thailand, stage victory in Belgrade Banjaluka and a total of 22 top ten finishes in UCI races.

“Human Powered Health is super organized and I’m really looking forward to helping the team and doing my best in the races next season,” Banaszek said after signing. “I’m best in the last kilometer of a bunch sprint. I can find the line, I can find my way through the chaos and I also perform in short time trials and the classics.”

The Pole is an accomplished track cyclist and will race for his country in the upcoming UCI Track Cycling World Championships in France. He has two European championship titles having won the points race in 2017 and the omnium in 2021. This ‘track craft’ translates onto the road and is crucial for his type of racing.

“It helps a lot because it improves my sprint and continuous short efforts,” Banaszek explains. “I bring a lot of skills from the velodrome to the road.”

The third Polish signing for 2023 across both squads, he jokes that “it’s really nice that we have a little Polish mafia here,” when talking about Aniołkowski and women’s program sprinter Daria Pikulik. “It’s important to have that connection with Stanisław, it will help us to work together.”

It’s really nice that we have a little Polish mafia here.

Alan is from a cycling passionate family and races alongside his family members, Adrian Banaszek and Polish national champion Norbert Banaszek on HRE Mazowsze Serce Polski. His father and three uncles were also racers, so he says “cycling was the trade.”

Off the bike, Banaszek is part of the Polish army and uses swimming and trips to the sauna as crucial parts of muscle recovery after big blocks on the bike.

The 2023 program is almost complete. Stay tuned for our final announcement soon.
