Having benefited from superb teamwork, Daria Pikulik sprinted in trademark lightning-fast style to win the Konvert Kortrijk Koerse classic in Belgium.

“It was an amazing feeling to win again this season,” Pikulik exclaimed at the finish. “This year has been hard for me but I’m still there and I’m still trying so I’m grateful to the whole team for always believing in me.”

Pikulik previously won the opening day of the Women’s World Tour in a sprint at the Tour Down Under, and a stage at the Ladies Tour of Bretagne, making today’s win the 26-year-old’s third victory of the season and ninth top-ten, marking a return to top form ahead of the backend of the year.

Pikulik and Cordon-Ragot embrace at the finish.

The team of Pikulik,
Alice Barnes, Audrey Cordon-Ragot, Marit Raaijmakers, Lily Williams and Marjolein van’t Geloof expertly marshaled the 126.2 km race. The team protected Pikulik throughout the race, defending her position on a large loop around Kortrijk that took in the Beerbosstraat cobbled climb, before convening expertly in a lead-out train on the five-lap local finishing circuit.

That was a perfect job and a really good day for us,” Pikulik added. “The team put me in such a good position with a perfect lead-out so all I had to was just finish the job for them.”

In the bunch sprint behind, teammates van’t Geloof and Williams did their bit, sprinting to eighth and fourteenth respectively, scoring crucial UCI points in the process. Cordon-Ragot, Pikulik, Raaijmakers and Williams all linked back up with the team after competing at the ‘Super Worlds’ in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I was a little in shock after the finish because I have just come here from Worlds in Glasgow,” Pikulik explained. “
My shape is really good right now so I’m looking forward to the next days of racing,” she ended.

Our Women’s WorldTour team is back in action in Belgium tomorrow at the rearranged GP Oetingen before heading for Norway and the Ladies Tour of Scandinavia stage race.
