Breaking the rules

Human Powered Health celebrates International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate female athletes all around the world and our tough, talented, and hard-working Women’s WorldTour team. Together we race to our ultimate podium, a better, healthier world for all humans.

“When I’m riding my bike wearing this jersey I am proving to the world that women can ride and race as well as anyone else, progressing our sport and challenging societal norms. It has been a career-long race for equality, and we are closer than ever,” says Audrey Cordon-Ragot.

Human Powered Health puts women’s sport first and believes strongly in the impact that can be made on the athletic landscape. Our athletes stand on the shoulders of the generations of pioneering cyclists that came before, “breaking the rules”, as Cordon-Ragot boldly puts it in the film, within society and sport via a tireless push for equality.

“I personally have benefited from the generation who are still racing,” says Lily Williams. “My teammates like Audrey and Romy [Kasper], these are people who have been pushing for change their entire careers.”

As detailed in a recent GCN interview with General Manager Ro De Jonckere, our team works to raise the bar. Professionalism, media coverage, and the overall competitive level of women’s sports are expanding in leaps and bounds all around the world. Our vision for women’s cycling capitalizes on this long overdue movement.

“We have a great community within our team,” says De Jonckere. “Both for our athletes and staff, this is something that brings us immense pride, with every part of the structure pulling in the same direction.”

This feeling of community is felt throughout the team and is a value that drives progression.

“It’s more than just a cycling team, it’s a family,” says Henrietta Christie. “It’s a safe space that helps me improve both on and off the bike.”

For athletes of every discipline and every gender around the world, we believe reaching full potential starts with the Pillars of Performance. Movement, Fuel, Mindset and Recovery can drive us as athletes on the bike, and people off it.

“Those four pillars are not only for athletes,” says Cordon-Ragot. “It is a baseline for life.”

It is a foundation that guides everything the team strives for.

“It’s hard to ignore any one of them and if you do you will not be at your best,” says Ruth Edwards. “It is exciting to come into a team with a sponsor that has such a statement for living a healthy lifestyle. It is something that I am passionate about.”

“What I love about this team is that they also look at the human being behind the professional athlete,” explains Marit Raaijmakers. “Racing is important but being a healthy human behind it is also important.”
