Sprinter Stanisław Aniołkowski carried his strong form into the Tour of Slovenia by powering to fourth place on the opening stage.
The result is his fifth top five placing of 2023 and was taken in good company, with multiple Grand Tour stage winner Dylan Groenewegen taking the win on the first day in Rogaška Slatina.
In the finale, Aniołkowski spotted the wheel of Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain – Victorious) and tried to use this as a guide to the line, infiltrating his lead out.
- Gunning for the line.
- Coming away with fourth.
“I was exposed earlier than I wanted which ruled out the win, but I had enough strength for fourth place.”
Aniołkowski had a tricky morning and so, by his own admission, wasn’t in 100% condition.
“I wanted to fight for the team,” he said. “The guys helped me in the final stretch, and so my task was to capitalize on their work.”
- The land that creates champions.
- Schönberger eyeing up his attack.
It was a busy day for Human Powered Health with Austrian Sebastian Schönberger launching an attack on the steep climb before the finishing circuit. An opportunist move that shows the ethos the team is bringing to the Tour of Slovenia.
