Climber secures first senior national jersey

Yuliia Biriukova has won the Ukrainian national time trial championships, scoring her first senior national champion jersey.

“I am so happy to win my first title,” Biriukova said after the race. “In the time trial, there was selection for Paris 2024 so I am very glad I managed to prove my quality.”

It was an extra special victory for Biriukova with her championships being hosted in her home city of Lviv on a 29.3km course.

“I tried to race at an even pace,” she explained of her effort, winning atop the aerodynamically supreme Factor HANZŌ and cutting through the air in the Smith Jetstream helmet.

The 26-year-old will go for further success on June 22 when she goes in the road race, also in Lviv.

“This result gives me great confidence for the road race and I hope I can win another jersey.”

Biriukova will wear her country’s colors with pride, now more than ever, with the flag representing the resilience of the wartorn nation.
