White earns Sprinter’s jersey on final day in Sacramento

Rally Cycling’s Emma White finished third on the final stage of the Amgen Tour of California women’s race on Saturday. In a sprinter’s showdown on the streets of downtown Sacramento, the team brought the stage one runner-up to the front of the peloton in the final kilometers. White opened her sprint at 200m to go and shot to the podium with a perfectly time bicycle throw.

“It was a chaotic and fast finish,” said White. “I trusted the team and stayed patient while Kirsti Lay and Sara Bergen took their final pulls. I’m happy to get another podium for the team because they have worked so hard for me. Winning the points classification on top of the stage podium makes this a very special moment for me.”

After finishing seventh on Friday’s queen stage and taking the lead in the Best Young Rider competition, Sara Poidevin was thrilled to bring a classification jersey home for the Rally Cats.

“It’s really great to keep the jersey in the team,” said Poidevin. “Today we showed our depth by both defending my jersey and executing the leadout for Emma at the end of the stage.”

Team Director Zach Bell, a former Olympian himself, knows the importance of teamwork and saw the race as a big step forward for the squad after taking home two classification jerseys at the biggest race in North America.

“The team realized their potential this week,” said Bell. “The ladies really put it together and did what they were capable of. Their level of communication, both during and after the stages, really helped make the difference. I’m very proud of how far they have come.”
