Rally Cycling’s Emma White sprinted to third on stage three of the Colorado Classic. Starting in the RiNo Arts District of Denver, the women raced for 50 minutes plus five laps around the Velorama music festival. With the general classification mostly sorted after two tough days of racing in Vail, it was the sprinter’s time to shine in the inevitable drag race to the line. White followed Allison Beveridge’s wheel in the sprint to finish third while Gillian Ellsay maintained her lead in the Best Young Rider classification. Abby Mickey protected her third place in the overall.
With the weather shifting from rain to sunshine on the start line, tensions were high due to the slippery corners. Rally Cycling stayed out of trouble and covered any dangerous moves that went off the front in order to ensure a field sprint for White.
“The team rode great today,” said White. “We stuck together and raced really well as a team. I had more of a drive to do well after my crash in the time trial yesterday, and now I’m even more motivated for tomorrow’s stage!”
The Mile High City finale on stage four sends the riders through City Park and downtown Denver on a flat 14 km circuit where the team will get one last chance at victory. The women race a four-lap circuit totaling 55 km, followed by the men’s eight-lap finale totaling 115 km.
