“Inspired Bikes 3” at the Tour of California

Rally Cycling will race the 2018 Amgen Tour of California while piloting some very special bicycles. For the third year running, the team collaborated with the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF), to produce six hand-painted bicycle frames to honor and benefit young UHCCF grant recipients. The team interviewed six kids and used their responses as inspiration for the art.

They bicycles are outfitted with top-of-the-line components, exactly what the Rally Cycling pros ride, and will be auctioned LIVE during the race. These truly one-of-a-kind bicycles can find a home in your garage.

The bicycles were designed by Circuit Sport’s design team and painted by Brad Galvin at Dirt Designs Graphic, the team's longtime partner for all things beautiful and hand painted on bike frames. Don’t miss the opportunity to own a piece of team history that will never be reproduced!

Hip-Hop Dance
54 cm | ridden by Robin Carpenter for Tatiana
Tatiana, age 10

Tatiana's exuberant "Hip-Hop Dance" frame celebrates the fun and freedom of hip-hop culture. Tatiana told us she loves the art form, and that she "likes to dance so much, even when there is no music. Dancing makes me feel good and that I can do anything." This fun, wild design is actually a technical achievement – it calls for seven layers of stencils and paint! A royal blue base coat is decorated with a kaleidoscope of shape and texture inspired by graffiti art.

Classic Cruiser
52 cm | ridden by Evan Huffman for Anna
Anna's artwork

Anna loved pink, rainbows, bunnies, and princesses, which gave us a pretty clear direction for "Classic Cruiser". Like the 50's cars that inspire the design, this bicycle exudes style and grace. A base-coat consisting of five tones of pink is faded into a seamless gradient. Metal flake chrome accents complete the retro look. This bicycle fits lockstep with California car culture and will be piloted by Rally's own West Coast king, Evan Huffman.

52 cm | ridden by Sara Bergen for Madison
Madison, age 7

"Gymnastics" is inspired by the beauty and motion of dance, Madison's favorite pastime. Madison sent us a gorgeous drawing that inspired this blue and pink color scheme of this bike. A unique, truly handmade process was used to create the art – paints were mixed to simulate watercolor or "finger paint" strokes, and are applied to a sparkling, luminous white base. The design references the flowing streamers that all young gymnasts know so well.

56 cm | ridden by Adam de Vos for Juliet
Juliet, age 9

"WW2" is inspired by Juliet's love of reading – one genre, and one book, in particular! Juliet loves to read historical fiction, and her favorite book is the award-winning young-adult classic, "The War that Saved My Life". The book details a young girl's unique, challenging journey through World War II, and its beautiful cover art inspired the rustic, weathered look. Powerful quotations from Juliet's favorite novel and another well-known classic from Winston Churchill complete this warhorse.

58 cm | ridden by Brandon McNulty for Lucas
Drawing by Lucas, age 10

This unmistakable aesthetic of "Gladiator" from the mind of Lucas, who dreams of visiting Rome's Colosseum. We connected little warrior Lucas with one of Rally Cycling own's warriors on the bike, Brandon McNulty, the team's GC leader for the Tour of California. The "trojan" colors on this frame should be familiar to our SoCal family – luminous bronze-gold and scarlet decorate a pearl white base coat, with laurel wreaths throughout and a Roman mosaic pattern decorating the top tube.

Great Outdoors
54 cm | ridden by Erica Allar for Kate
Kate, age 7 and her sister Anna

"Great Outdoors" celebrates Kate's love of camping and nature, and her favorite color purple, in pristine fashion. The color scheme is deceptively minimal, but takes immense precision to create – five individual hues, from orange-yellow to deep blue, are blended to produce sunset tones, and a layer of pine trees and a starry sky remind us all to take a deep breath and enjoy the ride. Bonus points if you can spot and name the five real constellations that decorate this natural masterpiece!
